Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. When her father's divorce from her family, she was raised up by her mother, godparents and grandmother. When she was a young girl she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to word associations. Ford started acting in her teens and became part of the National Youth Theatre. She had been accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School. After a couple of weeks, she realized the school was not for her. Ford returned for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth attempt she was accepted. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. Shaun Dingwall was later to play recurring roles as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however in the meantime she was already making her TV debut on the 1991 season of Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Tate began her TV debut in 1991and appeared on shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate would also frequently work in theatre and eventually joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. Tate began to gain attention for her stand up comedy in the year 1996.
