Audra McDonald's artistry is unmatched in the range and variety of her work as a vocalist, as well as an actor. In her role in the role of Billie Holiday at Emerson's Bar & Grill, the role that also helped launch her Olivier Award nominated debut on the London's West End in 2017, was the reason she received six awards. First actor awarded in four different acting categories, McDonald beat the record in the number of awards an actor has won. McDonald is also featured on The Secret Garden (1993), Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV (2004) and 110 In the Shade (2007 Twelfth night (2009) and the musical Shuffle Along: A Story of the Making of the Musical Shock of 1921 and All That Followed (2016). She also made her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut in Twelfth Night (2009). McDonald made her TV debut with the award-winning Peabody Award-winning CBS series Having Our Say - The Delany Sisters's First Hundred Years. After that, in 1999, she co-starred with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber on the ABC/Disney television version of Annie. Then, in 2000, she appeared as a regular role in NBC's well-known program Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald's debut Emmy was awarded for her performance in the HBO film version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Wit. The film was directed by Mike Nichols with Emma Thompson in the leading role the actress returned to network TV in 2003. The show she starred in was Mister Sterling and produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. The actress was a part of The Bedford Diaries of the WB series The Bedford Diaries in early the year 2006. In the following season, she was in a role that was recurring on NBC's television show Kidnapped. In the year 2016, McDonald was nominated for the fourth Emmy Award for her performance on HBO's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, a special film. In 2021, she starred alongside Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale as part of The Bite, a pandemic drama co-produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios. McDonald played U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence in the first episode of her role appeared in the CBS drama The Good Wife legal drama in 2009. The role was reprised in the year 2018, playing season regular Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. In recognition of her role, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominations. The actress is currently a guest on Julian Fellowes' historical thriller The Gilded Age on HBO.
